Brief Introduction to Ober Boys High School
Ober Boys' High School has a rich history spanning 75 years, originating as Bware Local Native Council (LNC) in 1949. The school underwent several transformations, becoming Bware DEB in 1959, and later an Intermediate school with an upper primary school. The same year, it changed its name to OBER DEB. In 1977, the Secondary School was established as a mixed school with Mr Philip Owili as the pioneer Principal.
The school is situated on 6.8 hectares of land donated by local families from Gonya, Salmon Oyieko, Oyengwe (Nyambega), Kanyango (Angote), Otondo, and Kirongo. Since 1977, Ober Boys' High School has experienced significant growth in enrolment, infrastructure, and academic performance under the leadership of various Board Chairs, including the current Chair, Rev. Dr Daniel Ochieng, who is serving his second term as Board Chair.
The school's progress is attributed to the collective efforts of its stakeholders, staff, parents/guardians and students, who share a vision of excellence. The Board of Management has launched a second-generation strategic development plan, aiming to maintain growth and development while fostering collaborations and partnerships. The plan is guided by principles from the Book of Nehemiah 3, emphasising prayer, planning, permissions, resource mobilisation, and prudent management.
The school's emphasis on collective effort and strategic planning will likely boost growth and development by fostering a sense of ownership and accountability among stakeholders. The leadership can ensure success by promoting transparency, involving stakeholders in decision-making, and providing necessary resources.
As a school, we are alive to the global thrust towards digitisation of teaching, learning and management in schools. To this end, we have created this website to help share the strategic plan and progress updates, facilitate digital/online teaching and learning, communication and feedback, showcase achievements and successes, engage alumni and the community, and provide a platform for collaboration and resource sharing.
